Manipur,June 25 :  Security forces on Saturday were forced to hand over 12 arrested cadres from the KYKL (Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup) insurgent group during an operation launched in Manipur’s Itham village, Spear Corps of the Indian Army said.

The Spear Corps took to Twitter to provide details of the operation, stating it was launched based on input from specific intelligence.

In the statement, the army stated that a mob consisting of approximately 1200-1500 people, led by women and a local leader, quickly surrounded the targeted area.

Despite repeated appeals to the aggressive mob to allow the security forces to proceed with the lawful operation, their efforts were in vain, the army said.

Considering the potential risks and casualties of using kinetic force against such a large and hostile mob, particularly one led by women, a careful decision was made to hand over all 12 apprehended cadres to the local leader, the army said.

After lifting the cordon, the security forces left the area and confiscated the recovered weapons and war-like stores seized from the insurgents.

The army identified one of the individuals as self-styled Lieutenant Colonel Moirangthem Tamba, also known as Uttam, who was also the mastermind behind the 2015 ambush case involving the 6 DOGRA (6th Dogra Regiment).

At the end of the post, the army issued an appeal to the people of Manipur, urging them to assist the security forces in maintaining law and order to foster peace and stability.

The Twitter post also tagged the Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army), and the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, emphasizing the importance of this message.
