PURI (Odisha), April 15: In a decisive move to galvanize its cadre ahead of the upcoming elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) concluded its high-stakes training camp in Puri on Sunday with a call for greater grassroots engagement and organizational discipline.
Over the course of four intensive sessions on the final day, the BJP’s top organisational leaders delivered structured ideological and operational guidance to party MLAs, MPs, and district-level functionaries.
B.L. Santosh, BJP national general secretary (organisation), along with joint general secretary (organisation) B. Satish and general secretary Sunil Bansal, led separate classroom-style sessions aimed at equipping the Odisha unit with strategies to strengthen party structures at the grassroots and improve communication of government schemes to the public.
The training, described by insiders as rigorous and sharply focused, is part of a broader push to consolidate the BJP’s presence in Odisha, a state seen as politically pivotal in the party’s eastern expansion strategy.
The tone for the two-day conclave was set on Saturday by BJP national president J.P. Nadda, who delivered a candid address to party leaders. Urging an end to internal factionalism, Nadda warned against complacency and hierarchy-driven politics.
“Don’t wear your position as a badge of ego. Whether you’re an MLA, MP, or minister—first develop your personality. Step away from groupism,” Nadda said in a no-nonsense briefing that lasted over an hour.
Laying out a 14-point action plan, Nadda instructed elected representatives to engage deeply with the communities they serve.
The BJP president’s key directives included spending at least 30 minutes at Anganwadi centres and primary healthcare facilities to understand public issues firsthand, building direct relationships with Dalit families within constituencies and cultivating a cooperative working relationship with government officials to ensure smoother coordination between governance and party functions.
Nadda emphasised that true leadership is reflected not in titles, but in ground-level action and responsiveness to public needs.
As the Puri camp concludes, party strategists hope the effort will infuse a renewed sense of purpose among the Odisha cadre. With the state emerging as a battleground in BJP’s broader national strategy, the party’s top leadership appears committed to building a grassroots-ready, people-first political apparatus.
