Bhubaneswar, Dec. 5: Hours before President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled inauguration of the new Bhubaneswar Judicial Complex, a two-foot-long cobra was spotted and safely rescued from the premises early Thursday morning.
The snake was discovered near the main gate pathway by a driver, who immediately raised the alarm. A team from the Snake Helpline was dispatched to the site and successfully rescued the cobra. The incident triggered concerns about the potential presence of more snakes on the premises, prompting a thorough inspection of the area.
Later in the evening, President Murmu inaugurated the new judicial complex, which will house the Khurda district courts. The inauguration marked a key event in the President’s ongoing five-day visit to Odisha.
Earlier in the day, President Murmu attended the 40th convocation of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar. This event followed her stay in Puri, where she participated in celebrations for Indian Navy Day.
The President’s schedule remains packed for the remaining days of her visit. On Friday, she is set to interact with residents of her birthplace in Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj district. She will also meet with students and faculty members at Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Rairangpur.
On December 7, the President will preside over several key events, including the foundation stone laying for the Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia, and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh railway lines. She will also inaugurate a tribal research and development center, Dandbose airport, and a sub-divisional hospital in Rairangpur before concluding her visit to the state.
