Man walks with son’s body in arms after failing to pay Rs 400 for hearse

Mayurbhanj, March 10: While the Odisha government still continues to be criticised from all corners over Dana Majhi, a tribal man who on August 25, 2016 carried his wife’s body on his shoulders for 12 km after being denied a government mortuary van, -a similar incident has come to the fore in tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district.
Reports a man had on Friday night admitted his 10-year-old son in Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada following his illness. The child died in the night.
On Saturday morning, the man requested one of the attendants at the medial college to help me book a mortuary van to carry body of his son to his village. The attendant allegedly asked him for a bribe of Rs 400 to facilitate the hearse.
Unable pay the money, the man carried the body of his son in his arms followed by his sobbing wife and daughter. On the way, they were stopped by local residents who immediately drew the attention of the district administration and requested to send a mortuary van.
The district administration immediately sent a hearse to carry the body.
Report said the district administration has ordered a probe into the incident.
