Jajpur,July 18 : A 51 year old man was arrested on Sunday on the alleged charges of raping a 35 year old deaf and dump woman at a village under Dharmasala police station in Jajpur district.

The deaf and dump woman was allegedly raped by Bhaskar Rana , a neighbour on Saturday evening after dragging her to the nearby sugarcane field. The elder brother of the victim girl filed an FIR in Dharmasala police station on Sunday against the accused after his sister narrated what had happened through sign language to her . Acting on the FIR, we launched an investigation and arrested the accused under section- 341 (wrongful restraint) and 376 (rape) of IPC. During interrogation , the arrested accused confessed that he grabbed her and sexually assaulted her in the sugarcane field. The victim girl was immediately rushed to the government hospital at Jajpur , where doctors conducted her medical examination. The accused was produced in the court at Jajpur on Sunday. The court rejected his bail application and remanded him into jail custody , ”, said the IIC of Dharmasala police station, Saroj Sahoo.
