DFO-Led Operation Uncovers Illegal Timber Stockpile, Accused on the Run

Malkangiri, 25 March 2025: Acting on intelligence about illegally hidden timber, the Malkangiri Forest Department conducted a raid at a residence in MV-23 under Korukonda range and seized a significant quantity of illegal wood.
Under the direction of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Pratap Kotapalli, a team led by Ranger Ramesh Chandra Rout and Forester Santosh Dey raided the house of Sribash Bepari .During the operation, officials seized 46 cut pieces of teak wood, 14 pieces of pine wood, and two half-finished wooden cots, estimated to be worth around ₹1 lakh.
However, the accused managed to flee before the authorities could apprehend him. The Forest Department has initiated legal proceedings, and efforts are underway to track down the suspect. Officials have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal timber trade in the region and have urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to deforestation and smuggling.
