DGP-IGP Conference concludes with focus on national security challenges
Special discussions held on coastal security, narcotics, cybercrime, and economic safety

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 1: The three-day All India Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police (DGPs-IGPs) concluded in Bhubaneswar on Sunday with a strong emphasis on enhancing the nation’s internal security mechanisms. The event addressed critical issues, including drug trafficking, cyber threats, and economic security, while charting a roadmap for future challenges.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah actively participated in the conference, engaging in discussions across multiple sessions. Both leaders returned to New Delhi after the event, with PM Modi expressing his satisfaction on social media. *“Had a productive first day at the DGP/IGP Conference in Bhubaneswar. Discussed various subjects on policing and security,”* he posted on X.
The conference saw physical attendance by DGPs and IGPs from all states and Union Territories, as well as heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs). Officers of various ranks joined virtually from across the nation.
According to official sources, the conference tackled pressing security concerns, including combating left-wing extremism (LWE), strengthening coastal and maritime security, addressing narcotics smuggling and drug trafficking and countering cybercrime and safeguarding economic interests
Additionally, participants reviewed the progress of implementing new criminal laws and shared innovative policing practices to address current and emerging security challenges.
The event was conducted under tight security following threats from Khalistani extremist groups. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based extremist, had reportedly sent audio and email threats warning of disruptions, including a possible attack on Bhubaneswar International Airport on December 1.
In response, the Commissionerate Police, Odisha’s Intelligence Wing, the Special Protection Group, and other security agencies acted swiftly to ensure safety. Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Devadatta Singh stated, “Amid potential threats, a foolproof security blanket was ensured during the event. All concerns were thoroughly investigated.”
Despite the heightened alert, the conference concluded without any disruptions, underscoring the nation’s preparedness to handle such challenges. The resolutions and strategies developed during the conference are expected to play a pivotal role in addressing India’s evolving security needs.
