NEW DELHI,JULY 23: Billionaire Elon Musk, for a long time, has been talking about a super app of sorts, the X app, that will be able to do a lot more than just provide people a platform to share their thoughts with the world. Musk has time and again discussed his vision for the X app, that could connect people, help with payments and order food online, etc. And in April this year, Twitter was legally merged with the X app. In the simplest of terms, Twitter was legally known as the X Corp and Twitter Inc no longer existed on paper.

Ever since then, reports of Twitter being rebranded into the X app have been doing rounds on the internet. However, nobody really anticipated that the change would happen anytime soon. Turns out, Musk is going to rebrand Twitter as the X app much sooner than we had expected as he tweeted about his plans recently. In his tweet, Musk said that we all will soon bid farewell to Twitter as a brand.

Elon Musk’s plans to rebrand Twitter

Without divulging any further details of his plans or clarifying the timeline, Musk tweeted, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”

So, does this mean that Twitter is shutting down? The answer to this question is no, it is not shutting down. Musk is simply talking about rebranding the platform. You will still be able to use the platform, just that it won’t be represented by the iconic blue bird logo anymore.

As soon as the tweet went live, people began reacting to it. While some are hoping that Musk will ‘start afresh’ with X, others aren’t willing to bid adieu to their beloved blue bird yet.

In another tweet, Musk mentioned that if they can find a good enough logo to rebrand Twitter, it will go live worldwide in the next couple of hours.

“If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make (it) go live worldwide tomorrow,” Musk wrote in his tweet.

The Twitter owner hasn’t yet talked about the domain and if Twitter.com will continue to exist or not. However, since the domain is quite valuable, it might take some time for the team to transition to a different domain. The rebranding, therefore, could happen much sooner than the domain shift.

A court document submitted in a court in California on April 4 hinted that Twitter no longer exists as an independent entity. The company had been merged into X Corp.

“Twitter Inc. has been merged into X Corp. and no longer exists. X Corp. is a privately held corporation, incorporated in Nevada, and with its principal place of business in San Francisco, California,” the court document read. The merger was submitted on March 15 and according to the filings, Musk is the president of the company as well as of its parent, X Holdings Corp, that was created in March as well.

X, that has often been called by Musk as the ‘everything app’, is being compared to the WeChat app, which is popular in China and is the go-to app for most activities.
