GoI Strengthens Dock Safety Measures through Workshop

Paradip, Dec.22: The Paradip Port Authority (PPA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Employment and its attached office, the Directorate General Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes (DGFASLI), hosted a landmark 4th One-Day Workshop on Dock Safety and Handling of Hazardous Chemicals today. The workshop is part of DGFASLI’s nationwide initiative to enhance safety standards at 12 major ports, underscoring Paradip Port’s leading role in prioritizing safety and operational excellence.
Being the No. 1 port among the country’s major ports, Paradip Port Authority consistently places safety at the forefront of its operations, setting benchmarks in cargo handling. In his presidential address, Shri P. L. Harandah, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, highlighted the port’s critical achievements in advancing cargo handling efficiency while fostering a robust safety culture. Shri Nilabhra Dasgupta, Dy. Chairman was Guest of Honour.
The workshop featured expert-led sessions covering crucial topics, including national and international regulatory frameworks for managing hazardous substances and skill development for dock workers and supervisors. Speakers from IIT Kharagpur and DGFASLI enriched the discussions, emphasizing the importance of academic and technical collaboration in strengthening safety measures and enhancing operational competencies.
This workshop series serves as a key step in ensuring safer working conditions for dock workers, supporting India’s expanding trade ecosystem, and advancing sustainable and secure dock operations. As the series progresses, it will provide actionable insights for stakeholders and government agencies to enhance safety measures and operational effectiveness nationwide.
