Haryana ,Mar 23 : The Haryana Police arrested a woman who allegedly harboured absconding Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and his associate, Papalpreet Singh. The woman, identified as Baljit Kaur, gave shelter to the Waris Punjab De chief and his aides at her home in Haryana’s Kurukshetra district.

Amritpal Singh has been on the run since the Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt against the Waris Punjab De chief and his associates. The manhunt entered Day 6 on Thursday. A convoy of over 50 cars gave chase to Amritpal Singh last week, who managed to slip through Punjab Police’s fingers. The Khalistani leader had likely made plans to flee the country.

The arrest of a woman in Haryana gave an indication that Amritpal Singh may have likely fled Punjab. The police said that the woman was nabbed from Shahabad area.

“We have nabbed the woman, Baljit Kaur, who harboured Amritpal and his associate Papalpreet Singh at her home in Shahabad on Sunday. The woman has been handed over to Punjab Police,” Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria was quoted as saying news agency PTI.

Earlier today, Punjab Police arrested Tejinder Singh Gill, who was allegedly part of the private security setup of Amritpal Singh.

Tejinder Singh Gill, a resident of Mangewal village in the Khanna area of Ludhiana district, was deputed in the security of Amritpal Singh, said Khanna Deputy Superintendent of Police (Payal) Harsimrat Singh.

He said that Tejinder Singh Gill used to display weapons in pictures and videos on social media without having an arms licence. An FIR against him has been registered under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Officials said their investigation has revealed that Tejinder Singh Gill was also involved in the Ajnala incident, wherein supporters of Amritpal Singh, some of them armed with weapons, had stormed the police station demanding the release of the Khalistani leader’s aid. the Ajnala Police will separately take action against Gill, officials said.
