Acting on specific intelligence, the team discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) buried near a twin tree close to the Charkondal Canal Bridge.
The IED, a steel tiffin box containing approximately 1.5 kg of explosives, was equipped with an electric detonator and 30 meters of electric wire. The Bomb Disposal Squad safely neutralized the device, preventing potential harm.
This area, located within the jurisdiction of Kalimela Police Station, has been a known Maoist stronghold for over a decade. Maoist cadres have historically used the region for shelter and frequently planted IEDs targeting security forces.
The BSF’s continued operations in Malkangiri district aim to dismantle Maoist activities and ensure the safety of local residents. The successful recovery of the IED is expected to weaken Maoist sympathizers and boost the morale of security personnel. Further combing operations are ongoing in the region to prevent future threats.
