Bhubaneswar, Jan. 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Thursday that the Indian diaspora will play a crucial role in India’s journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047, marking the centenary of its independence. Speaking at the inauguration of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, the PM acknowledged the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora to both global progress and India’s own development.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the Indian diaspora has earned a stellar reputation worldwide for their achievements and hard work across diverse sectors. Their efforts have not only enhanced India’s global standing but also helped spread the nation’s rich cultural heritage, which promotes values of peace, unity, and cooperation.

Reflecting on his government’s achievements since 2014, Modi noted that more than 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty, contributing to the country’s rapid economic and technological advancements. “In the past decade, over 25 million people have emerged from poverty, leading to improved lives for many,” he stated. “India has made remarkable progress in various sectors such as science, technology, agriculture, and industry, rising from the 10th to the 5th largest economy globally. We are poised to become the third-largest economy soon, all thanks to the dedication of our people and the diaspora’s support.”

The Prime Minister further emphasized India’s strides in renewable energy, electric mobility, and defense manufacturing, including fighter jets and transport aircraft. He added that in the near future, members of the diaspora would likely be flying to India in domestically made aircraft.

As India remains a young nation with a focus on enhancing the skills of its youth, Modi assured that the country would continue to forge ahead in every sector. During the event, he also inaugurated several exhibitions showcasing India’s cultural diversity and economic potential. The convention will conclude on Friday with President Droupadi Murmu delivering the closing address and presenting the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards.
