International Senior Citizen Day Celebrated in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, 1st October 2024-District Headquarters celebrated International Senior Citizen Day at the Malyabanta Hostel under the supervision of the district administration. ADM Vedbar Pradhan graced the event as the chief guest. The program began with a Yoga session for the senior citizens, followed by a tree plantation activity in the hostel premises.
District Social and Disability Empowerment Officer Nirmal Dharua led a cleanliness drive as part of the celebration. Health check-ups for senior citizens 100 and above were conducted, where blood pressure, diabetes, and other ailments were examined, and necessary medications were provided. Dr.M. D.Hussain presented health tips to help the elderly maintain their well-being.
The day included interactive sports events, where senior citizens participated and discussed their challenges. Legal Services Authority Secretary, Judge Sangita Patra, and lawyer Ashok Patnaik explained the government’s support initiatives for senior citizens and advised them to report any harassment or mistreatment immediately to legal authorities.
In a special gesture, some senior citizens working in the social sector were honored, and all participants were awarded certificates. Sub-District Social Officer Sasmita Swain and Block Social Security Officer Rajib Pujari efficiently managed the event.
