Malkangiri, October 5, 2023 – The Malkangiri District Congress Committee organized a massive rally and meeting, centered around the theme ‘Mula Nivasi Jana Jagarana’ (Awakening of Indigenous People), with a particular focus on minorities and tribal communities. The event took place at the D.N.K. Parade Ground in Malkangiri District Headquarters, drawing participation from over 5,000 enthusiastic Congress members.

Under the leadership of District Congress Committee President Govind Patra, the event featured prominent political figures, including Dr. A. Chelakumar, State Observer; State President Sharat Patnaik; S.C.S.T. OBC and Minorities All India Congress Committee Coordinator K. Raju ,All India Congress Committee ST Cell President Shivaji Rao Maghe, All India SC Cell President Rajesh Lalotia,  Chhattisgarh Cabinet Minister Kawasi Lakhma,  Koraput MP Saptagiri Ulaka, State ST Cell President Bhujbal Majhi, State SC Cell President Bankanidhi Behera, along with various MLAs.

The procession began from Malkangiri Bus Stand and made its way through the main road, featuring traditional folk dances, songs, and slogans. The rally reached the renovated District Congress Office, where Dr. A. Chellakumar inaugurated the party office. It continued to the DNK Parade Ground, the meeting venue, where leaders addressed the crowd.



During their speeches, the Congress leaders criticized both the BJD government in the state and the BJP government at the Centre. They pointed out failures in addressing issues such as OBC reservation, unemployment, irrigation, and the hike in old-age pensions and Kendu leaf rates etc. The Congress party also highlighted its past achievements in national development.

Malkangiri District, primarily a tribal region, has seen various government schemes implemented but is still facing challenges. The Congress party pledged its commitment to serve the tribal communities and welcomed over 100 workers from seven blocks into its ranks during the event.

Prominent attendees included former MLA Nimai Sarkar, Congress Party Working President G. Srinivas Rao, Sharat Buruda,P. Keshu Rao, Padma Pangi, Parshuram Bhakta, Pranakrishna Mandal, Isak Khosla, Prabhakar Pala, K. Anugu, Mangu Khila. The rally and meeting underscored the Congress party’s commitment to addressing the concerns of minorities and tribal communities in Malkangiri District.
