Bhubaneswar, July 19: Microsoft global outage on Friday severely hit services here at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. Millions of Windows users across the globe are experiencing errors, which Microsoft stated due to the recent CrowdStrike update.

While the tech giant said that it was investigating the issue, services across various sectors were severely hampered due to the outage. Among the flight services, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Vistara and Spicejet among others are facing issues. Flight booking and checking inside the Bhubaneswar airport have been affected due to the sudden outage. The passengers were given the services manually at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, it was learnt.

The Microsoft technical glitch also led to delays in flights’ take off from and landing at the airport.

In a tweet, IndiGo authorities said, “Our systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. During this time booking, check-in, access to your boarding pass, and some flights may be impacted…”

Similarly, SpiceJet tweeted, “We are currently experiencing technical challenges with our service provider, affecting online services including booking, check-in, and managing booking functionalities. As a result, we have activated manual check-in and boarding processes across airports. We kindly request passengers with upcoming travel plans to arrive at the airport earlier than usual to complete check-in at our counters…”

Biju Patnaik International Airport director Prasanna Pradhan, while expressing regrets over the inconveniences caused to the passengers, said the authorities were making their best efforts to serve the air-travellers.

Apart from India, the outage was also reported in America, London, Australia, Germany, the UK and other countries. The banking services were also severely affected in some places in India. Several reports stated that services in Railways were also affected in many parts of the country.
