Minor girl gang-raped in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, 6 arrested

Sambalpur, Aug. 2: A minor girl was on Saturday night allegedly gang-raped four hours in a car near a dhaba along National Highway 53 at Gosala in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.
Six persons, including a third-gender, were arrested in this connection and forwarded to court after questioning, the police said on Monday. The arrested also included a dhaba owner.
Reports said the 13-year-old girl who lives with her guardians at Hirakud station area was cajoled by the third-gender to accompany her to Gosala on the pretext of marketing.
After they reached Gosala, the dhaba owner and other accused took the girl to car in which they raped her one after another. At around midnight when the accused were having their dinner at the dhaba, a police patrolling team spotted the car parked relatively at a dark place.
The cops out of suspicion approached the car and found the girl writhing in pain. They rescued the girl and sent her to VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla in Sambalpur district.
Hospital sources said the girl’s condition was critical.
Sambalpur superintendent of police (SP) B Gangadhar said, “The minor girl was taken to the dhaba and gang-raped by four persons. A case has been registered in this regard. Besides the four persons who raped the girl, another person who enticed the girl and took her to the eatery and her guardian have been arrested.”
“The medical examination of the survivor was conducted and necessary treatment has been provided to her. The girl’s statement will be recorded in the presence of a magistrate and legal action will be taken as per law,” he added.
