Rayagada, Feb. 5: The National Road Safety Month 2025 was observed with a grand event at the Biju Patnaik Auditorium in Rayagada, aiming to raise awareness about road safety and curb the growing number of accidents in the region.
Rayagada District Collector Mrs. Parul Patwari graced the occasion as the chief guest and highlighted a concerning statistic—India accounts for 30% of global road accidents. She emphasized that accidents are not confined to urban areas but are equally prevalent in rural regions. Addressing the audience, she pointed out that intoxication, overspeeding, and mental instability while driving are among the leading causes of accidents. “Awareness and responsibility are key to mitigating these risks,” she remarked.
Superintendent of Police Swati S. Kumar, who was also present at the event, underscored the importance of basic safety measures such as wearing seat belts and helmets. She urged citizens to follow traffic rules diligently to ensure safer roads for all.
Students, recognized as the future of the nation, were encouraged to play an active role in road safety by adopting responsible driving habits and spreading awareness. The event concluded with a pledge to follow traffic rules and contribute towards a safer road environment.
