Balasore, Sept. 8: Congress leader Navajyoti Patnaik has urged Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik to declare Balasore Municipality as Municipal Corporation.

In a letter to the CM, Navajyoti has said Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in coastal Odisha, Brahmapur in south Odisha and Sambalpur and Rourkela in western Odisha have been upgraded as Municipal Corporation. However, despite Balasore being one of the oldest and large urban local body in north Odisha, has not been accorded the Municipal Corporation status.

“I have come to know from the ongoing proceedings of Odisha Legislative Assembly that the state government is going to hold urban local body polls soon. In this context, I would like to request you to kindly upgrade Balasore Municipality into Balasore Municipal Corporation. Non-accordance of Municipal Corporation status to Balasore is a historical injustice and the Balasore people should get it at the earliest,” Navajyoti mentioned in the letter.
