Bhubaneswar, Jan. 23: Odisha police on Monday cracked the murder case of a man whose body was found stuffed in a trolley bag and arrested three persons, including the wife of the deceased.
Khurdha district superintendent of police (SP) Siddharth Kataria revealed that the wife of the deceased named Mili Mohapatra was the mastermind of the crime. She eliminated her husband Monoranjan Mohapatra with assistance of her cousin brother and another associate to get rid of torture.
As per the SP, Manoranjan, who hailed from Lakhpada under Ranpur police limits in Khurdha district, was a habitual drunker and would beat up his wife Mili in inebriated conditions.
“The motive of the murder is regular torture meted out to Mili by her husband. There were 6-7 cases against the deceased including NBW (non-bailable warrant). He used to drink frequently and torture his wife. It prompted her to take revenge and plot the murder,” Kataria said.
“As per the inquest, Manoranjan was murdered by strangulation with the help of a rope. The post-mortem report will divulge more details. The primary spot of the crime was Chandeswar where the couple used to live while the secondary spot is Haripur forest,” Kataria added.
The SP further revealed that the accused had purchased a new trolley bag to dispose of the body in the forest to hide the crime.
The police took the accused to the primary as well as secondary crime spot and recreated the crime scene.
The body of the deceased was found stuffed in a trolley bag in Haripur forest under Nachuni police jurisdiction in Khurda district on Sunday.
