JAJPUR,JULY  2: Police rescued on Friday a newborn girl child, who was  allegedly sold to a childless couple for Rs 7000 in Jajpur district. 

 Suresh Das, a daily wager and his wife Lizarani Das of village Praktapur under Mangalpur police station already had two daughters. Lizarani delivered on 17th May this year another girl child. Struck by penury, and the birth of their third daughter , the couple  allegedly sold  their newly born  girl to a childless couple Subash Palei and Madhusmita Palei of Champeipal village    for Rs 7000  ten days back.  Anganwadi worker of village Prakatapur was monitoring the health of the child for which she came to know recently that the biological parents sold their girl child to a childless couple.

She informed the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Rasulpur block  Manjula Rath on Thursday for which CDPO lodged an FIR against  both the couple and alleged that a couple of Champeipal purchased a girl child from another couple of Prakatapur village.

Acting on the FIR, police launched an investigation and rescued the child from the couple Suresh Palei and Madhusmita Palei and handed it over to the District Child Protection Committee for proper care of the rescued child .   Police are investigating the case, said Rinarani Sahoo, the IIC of Mangalpur police station.
