Odisha farmer commits suicide due to crop loss in Cyclone Jawad

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 5: In a tragic incident, a farmer named Kailash Shabar (41) hailing from Ulma, a tribal village under Turubudi panchayat in Patrapur block of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday committed suicide allegedly due crop loss caused by deep depression rainfall.

Reports said, after seeing crops the farmer lost his mental balance and committed to death by consuming pesticides. The family members noticed Kailash came to know about the Kailash’s suicide bid after he started vomiting in the afternoon.

Kailash was immediately rushed to Patrapur Community Health Center (CHC) in  critical condition.

Upon receiving the information, Patrapur Tahsildar Amit Kumar Nayak reached the medical and examined the condition. Jarda police arrived at the hospital, seized the body and sent an inquest to Berhampur’s MKCG Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

The tehsildar is investigating the situation. He provided an ex-gratia Rs 10,000 compensation to the family of the deceased from the Red Cross fund.
Local BJP leader Manoranjan Dyan Samanta Ray reached at Medical College and expressed his condolences over the incident and blamed the state government for the government’s silence on farmers affected by the recent Cyclonic deep depression.

The BJP youth leader demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh fro the family of the deceased and his family for the damage caused by the rainfall. If government will not take it seriously may several cases happen like Kailash.
