Bhubaneswar, March20: The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana has received an enthusiastic response from Odisha residents, with 93,367 applications registered to date. Launched in 2024, the scheme encourages the adoption of solar energy by offering subsidies for installing rooftop solar panels in residential households.

In a written statement to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo confirmed that 2,740 beneficiaries in the state have already availed the benefits of the scheme. To ensure smooth implementation, the Odisha government has allocated ₹100 crore in financial support.

Bhadrak district leads the way with 17,167 applications, followed by Ganjam with 14,189 households registering for the scheme. This strong response reflects growing awareness and interest in renewable energy solutions among Odisha’s residents.

The initiative is poised to make a significant contribution to Odisha’s renewable energy targets while helping households reduce electricity costs. As interest in the scheme continues to grow, the government remains focused on expanding its reach to maximize benefits for citizens.

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana is a central government program aimed at promoting solar energy adoption in residential areas. By providing financial assistance for rooftop solar panel installations, the scheme seeks to reduce electricity expenses, encourage sustainable energy use, and strengthen the country’s energy security.
