Bhubaneswar, May 25: The state-owned Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the department of energy, Government of Odisha, for the financial year 2026–27, outlining an ambitious roadmap focused on power generation efficiency, financial performance, and sustainable energy development in the state.

The agreement, signed on May 25, is expected to serve as a performance framework for OHPC during FY 2026–27, with clearly defined operational and strategic targets aimed at strengthening Odisha’s energy security and supporting socio-economic growth.

The MoU was signed by Nibedita Mishra, Additional Secretary, on behalf of the department of energy, and Pranab Kumar Mohanty, Director (finance), representing OHPC.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary of the department of energy, who underscored the importance of strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure amid rising power demand and the growing emphasis on clean and renewable energy sources.

According to officials, the MoU lays emphasis on enhancing operational efficiency across OHPC’s hydroelectric projects, ensuring sustainable power generation, improving financial performance, and maintaining institutional accountability through measurable targets and periodic performance assessment.

According to experts, the agreement also reflected the state government’s continued focus on renewable energy-led growth, with hydropower expected to play a crucial role in Odisha’s long-term energy strategy. Officials said OHPC’s contribution remains vital in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply while supporting the state’s broader developmental agenda.

Senior officials from the department of energy and OHPC attended the event, including Dr. Debi Dutta Tripathy, Financial Adviser-cum-Special Secretary, and Saidutta Biplab Keshari Pradhan, Additional Secretary of the energy department.

Representing OHPC at the event were Sandeep Patnaik, Director (HR); Sangram Keshari Das, Senior General Manager (Electrical); P.M. Rout, General Manager (finance); Jogesh Chandra Sahu, General Manager (electrical); Lokanath Mohanty, Manager (finance); and Jyotirmaya Panigrahi, Company Secretary.

Officials said the annual MoU mechanism is intended to improve governance, efficiency and institutional performance by aligning departmental goals with measurable outcomes, while reinforcing OHPC’s role in Odisha’s clean energy transition.
