BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 10: Drunk to the hilt, a pharmacist on Tuesday night attacked two persons with a sword and left them seriously injured at Idida village in Odisha’s Balasore district, police said on Wednesday.

The accused identified as Subasish Tudu was immediately arrested by the local Singla police.

According to reports, Tudu was loitering around in the village in an inebriated condition. He was apparently in a bad mood over some issue and was hurling abuses at the passersby.

As he got further high, he turned more abusive and violent. Suddenly he started chasing and attacking people whosoever came on his way with a sword, leaving two of them seriously injured.

The villagers informed the police after attempts to overpower the miscreant failed.

After receiving the information Singla police reached the spot and overpowered him. The injured were shifted to a local hospital for treatment. They were later shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital on the advice of the doctors.

“The police cautiously approached the culprit, overpowered him and snatched away the weapon of offence. He was subsequently put under arrest. A has been registered against him under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to assault with sharp weapons and breach of peace. Apart from the sword in which he attacked the passersby, we have also seized a stick from his possession,” the police said.

The incident created a furore among the villagers. They demanded the immediate transfer of the trouble-maker pharmacist away from the village local primary health centre where he is engaged at present.
