Poverty-stricken couple commits suicide

Jajpur, July 24 : A 39-year-old poverty stricken Santanu Jena and his 32 year old wife Sabita jena of Jugal village under Korei police station in Jajpur district allegedly committed suicide on Friday night . While Sabita was found hanging inside the house, Santanu was found hanging from a tree outside the house. It is suspected that the unemployment and poverty might have forced the couple to take the extreme step during the pandemic. The couple got married five ago and they have no issue. The news of the suicide sent shock waves among the relatives who gathered at their house.
Some locals came to know about the incident around 6 am when they found the hanging bodies and informed the police. Senior police officials reached the scene to take stock of the situation. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the district headquarter hospital at Jajpur for postmortem. An investigation is underway to find out what prompted the couple to kill themselves. The couple was not left behind any suicide note said the IIC of Korei police station, Ranjit Mohanty.
