First Phase of Polling in Malkangiri District Witnesses Enthusiastic Participation

Malkangiri, May 13, 2024 – Today marked the commencement of the first phase of polling in Malkangiri district for Assembly Constituencies 146 -Malkangiri and 147 -Chitrakonda, along with a segment of the Nabarangpur Parliamentary Constituency passed peacefully .

In a display of commitment to democratic principles, Malkangiri District Magistrate Sachin Pawar was spotted standing in line alongside other voters at his designated polling station. Refusing any special treatment, he emphasized the equality of all voters’ rights, regardless of their position or status. His gesture garnered praise from the public and underscored the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadwani also participated in the electoral process, standing in queue at a separate booth to cast his vote. Speaking on the occasion, SP Wadwani highlighted the extensive preparations undertaken to ensure peaceful polling, particularly in Maoist-prone areas. The concerted efforts of the administration, coupled with the gradual decline of Maoist influence, have encouraged residents to actively engage in the electoral process, marking a significant shift towards mainstream participation.

Formerly regarded as Maoist strongholds, areas like Chitrakonda block have witnessed a remarkable transformation, with villagers casting their votes enthusiastically, signaling their integration into the mainstream developmental agenda. Notably, political representatives chose ground travel over helicopters, symbolizing a direct and inclusive approach towards garnering support.

Despite the overall smooth conduct of polling, some challenges were encountered, notably instances where individuals possessing valid voter ID cards were not listed in the voter registry. Additionally, the temporary glitch with the EVM machine at the Sadar Mahkuma Kumutiguda polling station led to a delayed start. However, prompt action by election officials ensured the swift resolution of these issues, allowing the polling process to resume without major disruptions.

Amidst these challenges, the spirit of democracy prevailed, with first-time voters expressing excitement at exercising their franchise. Despite the initial setbacks, the turnout remained robust, reflecting the electorate’s unwavering commitment to shaping the future of their region through the ballot box.
