Berhampur: Delivering an accurate electricity bill to every consumer is more than a routine process—it reflects a strong combination of advanced technology, robust systems and the dedication of frontline employees working across urban centres and remote villages. Reinforcing its commitment to transparency, operational excellence and consumer-centric service, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) continues to strengthen its revenue assurance initiatives through technology-enabled monitoring and vigilant field verification.

To ensure fair and accurate billing, TPSODL has adopted digital tools such as OCR-based meter reading validation, data analytics and systematic field audits. These initiatives help identify discrepancies, improve consumer records, ensure correct tariff categorisation and detect unauthorised electricity usage. Together, these measures are enhancing billing accuracy, strengthening operational efficiency and building greater consumer confidence.

The success of these initiatives is driven by the dedication of TPSODL’s frontline workforce, who play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the power distribution system.

Santosh Sahu of Purushottampur demonstrated exemplary vigilance during spot billing activities by identifying 654 cases of electricity theft during the last financial Year. His sustained field efforts helped protect revenue, reduce commercial losses and promote responsible electricity usage among consumers.

At Uppalada Sub-Division, Papindra Jena, Supervisor, through meticulous field verification and consumer analysis, identified 44 unreported live connections and 12 cases of tariff misuse, which were subsequently corrected from Domestic to General Purpose category. His efforts significantly improved billing accuracy, strengthened the consumer database and contributed to better revenue realisation.

Several other field employees have also made notable contributions towards improving service delivery and operational excellence. Soroj Guru of Bhanjanagar ensured 100 per cent billing coverage of Lift Irrigation consumers while successfully implementing the upgraded digital billing application. Prabin Padhi of Gopalpur led the replacement of meters at critical Lift Irrigation points to improve billing efficiency. Meter Reader of Malakangiri area Ashok Mandal regularised 63 consumer cases through proactive field engagement, while Basudev Behera of KabiSuryanagar achieved 100 per cent OCR-based meter reading and zero provisional readings, setting a benchmark in digital billing accuracy.

These examples reflect the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by hundreds of field employees who work every day to ensure that consumers receive accurate bills and reliable services.

Reiterating TPSODL’s commitment to transparency, technology-driven operations and consumer-centric services, Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO, TPSODL, said the company’s continued investment in technology and its people is helping strengthen consumer trust and service delivery across Southern Odisha. He added, “At TPSODL, consumer trust is at the heart of everything we do. We are continuously strengthening our systems through digital innovation while empowering our frontline teams to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accuracy and accountability. Every accurate electricity bill represents the combined efforts of our people and our technology.”

TPSODL encourages consumers to verify the meter reading mentioned in their monthly electricity bill with the reading displayed on their electricity meter. Consumers are also advised to report any billing discrepancy, unauthorised electricity usage or suspicious activity to the nearest Customer Relation Centre or through the company’s consumer service helpline 18002026 or 1912. By combining advanced technology, vigilant field practices and active consumer participation, TPSODL remains committed to building a transparent, efficient and future-ready power distribution system for Southern Odisha.
