AM/NS India champions environmental stewardship in Sustainability Week 2026

Bhubaneswar, June 15 : ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) observed Sustainability Week across its Odisha locations during which a series of impactful activities were organised to promote environmental awareness and action aligned with this year’s global theme by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – “Climate Action – Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
On World Environment Day, a mass plantation drive was held at the Pellet Plant, Paradeep followed by sapling distribution near Nuagarh Panchayat, Baldia, where 400 fruit bearing saplings were presentedto the community members. Later in the week, AM/NS India, in collaboration with SPCB and Paradeep Municipality, organised a large scale beach cleaning drive at Paradeep Beach with support from local vendors and employees. Awareness activities included a Nukkad Natak on climate change by local skit group Awaaz, performed both inside the plant and at Nuagarh Panchayat. An organic waste composter capable of processing 150 kg per day was inaugurated within the plant premises. The week also featured plastic waste collection, training sessions, and quiz and poster competitions, culminating in a closing ceremony where winners were recognisedfor excellence in environmental stewardship. The various events were graced by Smt. Hari Prasad,Plant Head, Paradeep Pellet Plant, SPL, Paradeep Port, Shri Rajarshi Sinha,Head – Paradeep Power Plant, Shri Sunila Das, Head – HR & IR, Odisha Asset, by Shri Suvendu Kumar Dash, Head – Environment, Odisha Asset and Shri Debadatta Das, Manager – Environment, Paradeep.
Dabuna Beneficiation Plant marked Sustainability week with plantation drives and sapling distribution to community membersfollowed by a Nukkad Natak inside the plant premises and in nearby communities. Employees pledged their commitment to sustainability, and joined quiz and poster competitions, while families participated in creating impactful awareness messages. The events were graced by AM/NS India leadership including Shri Jaiwardhan Paroha, Head – Dabuna Beneficiation Plant, Shri Jay Kisan Sharma, Head – Logistics, and Shri Ajit Singh, Head – Project.
At Thakurani and Sagasahi Mines, plantation drives and Nukkad Natak highlighted Sustainability Week. At Thakurani, activities were held at the New Office and Hill View Colony while at Sagasahi programmes were held at Kalamang Village. The events were graced by Shri Soumya Ranjan Behera, Assistant Engineer, SPCB, Keonjhar, along with AM/NS India leadership including Shri Alok Mehta, Director – Mines & Strategic Projects, Shri Laxman Shekhawat, Chief – Mining Operations& Development, and Shri Amit Dubey, Head – Mining Operations, Shri Ratnesh Prasad, Project In charge, Shri Prasant Kumar, Mines Manager, and Shri Mohan Reddy, Production In charge.
At AM/NS India’s Bhubaneswar office, quiz and poster competition on climate change was organised, along with an awareness session for the employees in the presence of Shri Dilip Kumar Dash, Sr. Environmental Engineer, SPCB, Odisha and Shri Ghanashyam Parida, Head – Odisha Projects, AM/NS India.
