Baleshwar : TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, recorded transformative growth in solar adoption across Northern Odisha during the first quarter of FY 2026–27. Through the concerted rollout of the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the pioneering Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) Model, TPNODL facilitated 18,415 new rooftop solar installations, adding 36.18 MW of green power capacity to the regional grid from April to June in FY27, taking overall green energy capacity to 90.25 MW.

The surge highlights a rapidly expanding appetite for sustainable energy among domestic consumers. Monthly adoption rates maintained a continuous upward trajectory throughout the quarter, rising from 4,512 installations in April to 6,233 in May, and culminating in 7,670 installations in June. The quarter’s capacity addition of 36.18 MW was anchored by 26 MW generated through 8,235 installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, supplemented by 10.18 MW from 10,180 installations under the ULA Model. This balanced dual-model strategy has significantly simplified access to renewable infrastructure, enabling wider participation across all socio-economic segments in the region.

Progress was reported across all five operational circles within TPNODL’s mandate. In Q1 FY27, Baleshwar Circle spearheaded the region’s solar transition by securing 6,449 installations accounting for 13 MW of added capacity. Baripada Circle followed with 3,939 installations adding 7 MW, while Jajpur Circle achieved 3,293 installations generating 7.46 MW. Bhadrak Circle recorded 2,702 installations totalling 4.6 MW, and Kendujhar Circle rounded out the quarter with 2,032 installations representing 4.12 MW of new solar power.

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Dushyant Kumar Tyagi, CEO of TPNODL, stated that the rapid momentum in rooftop solar adoption under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana reflects the utility’s steadfast commitment to accelerating Northern Odisha’s clean energy transition. He emphasized that by combining government initiatives with streamlined execution, TPNODL empowers local communities with affordable power while transitioning to long-term regional sustainability with clean and green energy.

The widespread adoption of rooftop solar has yielded substantial economic relief for local households. In June 2026, a total of 10,715 consumers across TPNODL’s distribution areas registered Zero-Unit Billing, effectively reducing their monthly electricity expenditures.

Baleshwar recorded the highest volume of zero-bill households at 4,042, followed by Baripada with 2,628, Jajpur with 1,496, Kendujhar with 1,466, and Bhadrak with 1,083 consumers. In addition to zero-billing recipients, another 9,328 consumers experienced energy bill savings exceeding 50 percent during the same period. Baleshwar led this category with 3,221 consumers, alongside 1,914 in Jajpur, 1,684 in Baripada, 1,421 in Bhadrak, and 1,088 in Kendujhar, demonstrating the tangible financial benefits of residential solar systems.

By coupling central subsidies with tailored aggregation frameworks, the utility remains dedicated to strengthening Odisha’s renewable energy ecosystem, empowering communities with affordable power, and advancing national sustainability goals.
