BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 1: As many as 14 employees of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS)-Bhubaneswar, India’s premier research institute which is also engaged in the fight against Covid-19 battle, have tested positive for coronavirus.

The infected persons, among others include six senior scientists and an administrative officer, sources said.

What is quite worrying is that the large-scale infection at ILS has happened just a few days before the visit of Union science and technology minister Jitendra Singh to the campus.

The Union minister is scheduled to visit ILS on 4 to inaugurate a new building in the campus

The scientists and other staff working at the ILS apprehend that the minister’s visit will further aggravate the Covid situation in the campus.

Though ILS has not made any official announcement with regard to detection of Covid-19 cases in the campus, sources said the infected persons have been hospitalised.
