Bhubaneswar, July 5: Dengue is fast spreading its tentacles in Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar. The total cases of dengue infections in the city crossed 100 mark on Tuesday.

Nayapalli and IRC village have turned into a hotspot, said city health officer Dipak Bisoi.

“Some cases have been detected from Nayapalli, IRC Village, Jayadev Vihar, Salia Sahi, Pokariput, Unit 9 and Unit 3 areas in Bhubaneswar,” said Bisoi.

According to Bisoi, the team has found unused tyres, earthen lamps and accumulation of rain water in some compounds. As these have a hard surface, they can turn into breeding sources, he said.

Senior Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials said that fogging operations have already been intensified in different parts of the city.

The spike in dengue cases has now prompted the authorities of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to intensify sanitation measures.

BMC Mayor Sulochana Das said that dengue cases were reported from some parts of the city and already fogging activities had been intensified.

“There are some places that have turned into hotspots. We are now concentrating on these areas and taking all possible measures to identify and destroy breeding sources,” said Das.

BMC Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas said, “BMC has started fogging operations. New machines will reach soon and we are planning for zone and ward wise so that a massive drive can be done in a targetted manner.”
