Bhubaneswar Metro to feature 20 stations in first phase: Urban Development Minister

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 10: The Bhubaneswar metro rail project will span 26 km with 20 stations planned in its first phase, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.
The first phase will connect Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia Square, covering major city landmarks. Proposed stations include Bhubaneswar Airport, Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Jayadev Vihar, Xavier, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana, Patia, KIIT, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan, Baranga, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square.
The project received a grant of Rs 210 crore for 2023-24, with ₹1,000 crore approved for 2024-25. Completion is targeted for 2027.
Envisioned as a game changer for urban mobility, the metro aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the city’s vital areas.
Metro trains will operate on elevated tracks, approximately 13 meters above ground level, with increased heights at Rajmahal, Jayadev Vihar, and Baranga. Trains will run every 10 minutes, supported by a fleet of 13 metro trains, each consisting of three coaches.
The Bhubaneswar metro promises to reshape the city’s public transport landscape, ensuring efficient, fast, and comfortable travel for its residents.
