Bhubaneswar, Jan. 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasised that war is not a solution to any problem, but knowledge is. He stated that while war only brings destruction and devastation, knowledge leads to productivity and progress. “Through knowledge, we can conquer the hearts of the global community, just as Emperor Ashoka did with his teachings of peace,” Modi said.

Addressing the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, Modi cited Emperor Ashoka’s transformation after the bloody Kalinga war in 261 BC. Ashoka, initially a conqueror, became a proponent of peace after witnessing the horrors of the war. His embrace of Buddhism and the subsequent spread of his message of non-violence won him respect from people worldwide. “This is the land of Kalinga, where the great emperor renounced violence and embraced peace,” the Prime Minister added, quoting a famous line by Buddha: “War is not the solution to any problem; knowledge is.”

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also assured the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) present at the event that the Odisha government is committed to addressing their concerns in a timely manner. “We take our responsibility toward the Indian diaspora seriously, no matter where they reside. It is one of the guiding principles of India’s foreign policy,” Patnaik said.

PM Modi also acknowledged the significant contribution of Indian youth, particularly professionals, to the global economy. “The world now listens to the success stories of Indian talent. Indian youth are playing a crucial role in driving the global economy. I urge them to continue contributing to the progress of the ‘New India’,” he said.

He also shared his vision for India in the 21st century, stating that the nation is progressing at an unprecedented pace. “India’s development is accelerating, and this momentum will help us reach new heights and emerge as a global economic powerhouse,” he asserted.

Finally, Modi reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values. “India is the mother of democracy, and democracy is an integral part of our way of life. Diversity is not something we need to be taught—it drives every aspect of our lives,” he concluded.
