Jajpur/Odisha,Sep 18 :  Central Range Inspector General of Police Dr Satyajit Nayak, IPS, has said that the safety and security of women and children would remain the police’s first priority, stressing the need for preventive policing, greater vigilance and prompt response to complaints involving vulnerable sections.

Addressing police personnel, Dr Nayak called for a proactive and people-centric approach, urging officers to identify potential threats, strengthen patrolling and local intelligence, and take timely preventive measures.

He said complaints involving women and children should be handled with sensitivity, professionalism and dignity, with appropriate action initiated without unnecessary delay. He also emphasised coordination among police units, families, educational institutions, community organisations and other stakeholders to improve awareness and prevent crime.

Building public confidence and encouraging women and children to report concerns at an early stage were essential, he said.

Dr Nayak stressed that effective policing should focus not only on detection and investigation of cases but also on preventing incidents and ensuring timely assistance to vulnerable persons. He urged police personnel to remain vigilant, uphold professional standards and work closely with communities to create a safer environment for women and children.
