Balasore, May 12: Allegedly unable to bear the ‘delay’ in her divorce case hearing, a woman lawyer on Wednesday consumed poison in front of a judge during trial at a family court in Odisha’s Balasore.

The lawyer, identified as Rajashree Barik, has reportedly been fighting a legal battle against her husband for separation for the last 13 years.

As the legal proceedings allegedly did not make any headway ever since she filed a divorce case in the family court in 2009, the woman lawyer consumed poison during the hearing.

She was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Balasore, by her colleagues. Her condition is stated to be stable.

The police has recovered a suicide note from the spot in which Barik has mentioned that the “inordinate delay” in the legal proceeding forced her to take the extreme step.
