Uddhav’s wife Rashmi steps into Maha talks, contacts wives of rebels to convince them to return
MAHARASTRA,JUNE 26 : As the political crisis continues to unfold in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s wife Rashmi Thackeray has been contacting the wives of other MLAs to convince them to speak to their husbands.
According to sources, Uddhav Thackeray has also been messaging some rebel MLAs who are currently staying at a hotel in Guwahati.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray chaired a national executive meeting with Sena leaders, passed resolutions and moved the Election Commission (EC) to restrain any other political outfit or faction from using the name of Shiv Sena and its founder late Balasaheb Thackeray.
The current political crisis was triggered by Eknath Shinde, who, along with several MLAs, went incommunicado after the MLC poll results.
They are currently camping in a hotel in Guwahati. More MLAs, including independents, have joined the rebel camp since then.
The total strength of the Maharashtra Assembly is 287 and the majority, in the event of a trust vote, is 144. The ruling coalition of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress has 169 seats.
If the MLAs led by Shinde do resign, then the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) strength will fall below the majority mark, leading to the collapse of Uddhav Thackeray-led government.
