Ashwini Vaishnaw: ‘Upcoming rail lines to boost connectivity to North Odisha

Baripada/Balasore (Odisha), Dec. 8: The foundation stone-laying ceremony for three new rail lines in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, officiated by President Droupadi Murmu, is set to enhance connectivity to the Simlipal forest reserve while driving economic growth and regional development, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Saturday.
The three rail lines—Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani, Buramara-Chakulia, and Badampahar-Kendujhargarh—were inaugurated at Bangiriposi in Mayurbhanj district.
Highlighting Simlipal’s global significance, Vaishnaw noted its recognition as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and its inclusion in Time Magazine’s list of the world’s top 50 must-visit places.
“Simlipal is one of the world’s 50 best travel destinations, according to Time Magazine. These upcoming rail lines will offer seamless access for tourists, connecting Simlipal with various cultural and heritage hubs,” he said.
The minister emphasized the broader economic impact of the project, stating that the new rail lines would open business avenues, boost local trade, and promote the overall development of northern Odisha, particularly Mayurbhanj district.
Railway officials underscored the significance of the new routes, which traverse mineral-rich regions, facilitating freight transport and supporting nearby industrial zones.
Vaishnaw revealed that the government has committed an investment of Rs 73,000 crore, with projects worth Rs 20,000 crore already approved.
He added that the development would accelerate economic growth in the backward areas of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts, as well as East Singhbhum district in neighboring Jharkhand.
