Jajpur, Sept 10  : A   60 year old farmer   allegedly committed suicide on   Thursday evening   by hanging in his house at village Kantia under Bari   police station in  Jajpur district.

Jadumani   Mallick raised paddy crops over nine acres of land  after obtaining a loan amount of three Lakh rupees from a Self Help Group and some villagers.     But due to lack of adequate water the crops had been ruined recently.  He might have taken the extreme step after being unable to meet his losses, said  Akshya  Mallick, a villager.

Sunanda Das, the MLA of Bari met the grief-stricken family members of the deceased on  Friday and handed over ten thousand rupees to the widow of the  farmer. 

When contacted  Manas Ranjan Bhoi the Tehasildar of Bari said“ After knowing  the incident ,   we  directed the local  Revenue Inspector  to investigate the matter.   We will submit a report to the district   administration soon”.
