Balasore, Aug. 2: Firebrand political leader Arun Kumar Dey passed away on Monday evening at a private hospital here. He was ill for the past few days.

He was 76.

Dey was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly.

According to sources, Dey was admitted to AMRI hospital in Bhubaneswar after contracting Covid-19 a few days back. He reportedly succumbed to post Covid complications.

A pall of gloom descended over Balasore following the demise of Dey, fondly called ‘Dada’ in the locality.

He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Balasore thrice on NCP ticket. He won the poll once as an independent candidate and once on the Odisha Gana Parishad (OGP) ticket.

Expressing grief over the demise of Dey, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Odisha lost an able politician.
