Bhubaneswar, Feb10: – The Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar (ILS)an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, proudly hosted its first-ever Alumni Meet on 10th February 2024,welcoming back esteemed graduates from across the globe for a day of reflection, connection, and celebration.
The inaugural Alumni Meet, themed “Rekindling Connections, embracing future together”served as a testament to the enduring bonds forged within the ILS community and the institute’s commitment to fostering lifelong relationships with its alumni.
The meet was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, former DG ICAR, and Dr. Debasis Dash, Director, Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar, in presence of esteemed guests and dignitaries.
Chief Guest Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Chairperson, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and former DG ICAR and leader in the field of Plant Science, delivered an inspiring keynote address during the scientific session.
Expressing his gratitude to all the alumni who attended the event,Dr. Debasis Dash, Director, Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneswar,said, ” ILS is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of life sciences through cutting-edge research, training, and academic programs. We are happy to host first ever alumni meet this year. The inaugural Alumni Meet was a resounding success, bringing together our alumni community to celebrate shared experiences, accomplishments, and aspirations. We are immensely proud of our alumni’s achievements and grateful for their continued support and engagement with ILS.”
Alumni from various batches and fields of study gathered at the ILS campus and joined virtually, reminiscing about their time at the institute and sharing stories of their professional journeys since graduation.
Esteemed alumni and faculty members explored topics ranging from advancements in biotechnology to the role of research in addressing global health challenges. Talks were being given by the alumniDr.
Binod Bihari Sahu (NIT Rourkela) on Importin alpha2 provides immunity against rice sheath blight, talk by Dr. Rajiv Ranjan (DEI) on Exploiting Synthetic Biology for Sustainable development, talk by Dr. Bhubaneswar Pradhan (RKMVERI, Kolkata) onLaboratory to Lecture Hall: My Academic Odyssey.
A panel discussion was held to discuss the way forward and the strategies to take the alumni association forward.
The meet provided alumni with the opportunity to reconnect with former classmates, forge new connections, and explore potential collaborations in various fields of life sciences. Alumni interacted with the students, visited the labs and also participated in several sports’ activity followed by cultural events and dinner with faculties and invited guests.
The Meet concluded with a sense of nostalgia and anticipation for future gatherings, as alumni departed with renewed connections and a deeper appreciation for their alma mater.
ILS extends its heartfelt thanks to all the alumni, faculty, staff, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event and looks forward to many more fruitful interactions in the years to come.
