Malkangiri,11 July 2023 :In a bid to combat child labor and raise awareness about its detrimental effects on society, a district-level child labor prevention awareness camp was organized at the DRDA Conference Hall in Malkangiri. The event witnessed the participation of various government officials, experts, and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

Sri. Trinath Majhi, ADM Malkangiri, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his speech, Mr. Majhi emphasized the need for collective action to eradicate child labor in Malkangiri. He highlighted the importance of identifying periods when laborers migrate in search of work and creating a comprehensive list to implement targeted measures against child labor effectively.

Mr. Majhi also stressed the integration of orphaned children into society, urging attendees to prioritize their well-being and liberate them from child labor.

Dr. Akshay Kumar Khemundu, Sub-Collector,Malkangiri delivered the main address, shedding light on the root causes of child labor in the district. He discussed various acts and laws related to child labor and shared information about schemes implemented by the Central and State Governments to combat the issue.

During the camp, Sri. Sarat Panigrahi, the District Labor Officer, highlighted the importance of transforming children’s mindsets to eliminate child labor. He proposed that businesses prominently display signs stating they do not employ child labor and suggested government employees take an oath not to hire child labor in their households.

The event was attended by notable personalities including District Child Protection Officer Narayan Das, DSWO Sasmita Swain,Municipality Executive Officer Kanhu Charan Patnaik,DIPRO Pramila Majhi and representatives from various non-governmental organizations.

Overall, the child labor prevention awareness camp in Malkangiri District served as an informative and collaborative platform, fostering a sense of responsibility among participants to eliminate child labor. The efforts and initiatives taken during the event are expected to bring about positive changes and ensure a better future for the children of Malkangiri.
