Bhubaneswar, June 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is probing into the Odisha train tragedy that left 292 killed and over 900 injured on Tuesday questioned Soro Section Signal Junior Engineer (JE) Amir Khan in connection with the devastating mishap.

On Tuesday, the Central probe agency had sealed the rented house of Amir Khan.

Khan and his family members were not present at the house during the raid.

The investigators took Amir Khan to the house in Soro, where they were questioning him regarding the train mishap.

A four-member team of the CBI accompanied by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel had on Monday raided the rented house of Aamir Khan in the morning.

The team sealed the house as there was no one inside it, sources said.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that Amir Khan and his family members were absent in their rented house for last few days.

The train accident involving Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, a stationary goods train and Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express near Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Balasore on June 2 had claimed lives of at least 292 passengers.

Many injured passengers are still undergoing treatment at various hospitals, including SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.

The CBI took over the investigation from Government Railway Police (GRP) soon after the Railway Board sent a recommendation in this regard to the Centre.

The CBI sleuths have visited the spot many times and sealed Bahanaga Bazar railway station as part of their investigation into the mishap. The station will remain sealed till the completion of the probe and no train will halt at the station for now.

The CBI officials have also seized the mobile phones of some railway employees.

“The CBI officials seized the mobile phones to collect detailed information on the call records, WhatsApp calls and social media chats of some railway employees,” said a source.
