Put on mask, ran right inside: Demolition expert, covered in soot, recalls moment Twin Towers fell
New Delhi, Aug 28 : The Supertech Twin Towers in Noida were safely demolished on Sunday. As the nearly 100-metre-tall structures came down, the experts responsible for the demolition were on tenterhooks. Speaking to media sometimes after the dust settled at the demolition site, Chetan Dutta, who pressed the button to bring down the Twin Towers, recalled the crucial moments before and after the implosion.
“Total 10 men were in my team, 7 foreign experts, and 20-25 people were in Edifice Engineering team,” Chetan Dutta said, as he walked covered in soot.
Five of us were stationed 70 metres from the implosion site, Chetan Dutta, who is a demolition-expert, said.
“Half an hour before the blast, when the siren was switched on, all five of us were quiet. We were just looking at each other’s face. After pressing down the button, when we looked at the buildings, there were just balloons of dust everywhere.
“We were a little worried and so we did not wait for the dust to settle. We put on our masks and ran towards the buildings. Our first concern was Emerald Court, and it was completely safe. The compound wall fell a bit towards ATS Village, due to which there is very slight damage to the wall,” Chetan Dutta said.
Talking about demolition being successfully carried out, Chetan Dutta said, “Everything is safe as per our plan.”
