NEW DELHI,MAY 24 :Congress works to hurt the sentiments of people and tries to damage the faith of the Hindu religion, former party leader Hardik Patel said in a sharp attack on the grand old party and its senior leader Bharatsinh Solanki.

“I have said earlier as well that the Congress party works to hurt the sentiments of the people, always tries to damage the faith of Hindu religion. Today, a former Union Minister and Gujarat Congress leader made a statement that dogs urinate on bricks meant for the Ram temple!”

“I want to ask the Congress and its leaders what enmity they have with Lord Shri Ram. Why hate the Hindus so much? After centuries, a temple for Lord Shri Ram is being built in Ayodhya. Yet the leaders of Congress keep making statements against Lord Shri Ram,” Patel, who left the grand old party this month, tweeted.

The Gujarat leader, who was inducted into the Congress with the hope of swaying the Patidar votes that play kingmaker in the state polls, had removed all mentions of the Congress from his Twitter bio before he resigned earlier this month.

Bharatsinh Solanki, the former chief of the Gujarat Congress and a political veteran, stirred controversy with his comments on the Ram Mandir. He accused the BJP of collecting crores in the name of Lord Ram and not giving any account of the money.

He also alleged that the government kept the money in their budget, and still went out to collect more money for the Ram temple.

Ramshila, or bricks for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, were sent by people from across the country with great reverence and faith, Solanki said.

“These bricks were stored in villages to be used for the construction of the temple. But you must have seen dogs urinating on them,” he added.

Hardik Patel’s resignation from the Congress, just months from the state election, and his frontal criticism of the party and its leaders have sparked rumours of him joining the BJP.

On Monday, in an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Patel spoke about the issues he was considering before making any political moves and said that his father used to say that he had joined the “wrong party” after his induction into the Congress.
