Malkangiri 31 May 23 : The District Health Organisation, in collaboration with Govt. Polytechnic College, successfully observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and recognize student achievements in various fields. The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Sri. Trinath Majhi, ADM Malkangiri, as the Chief Guest, and Sri. Sachin Patel, SDPO, who served as the Guest of Honour. Also present were Sri. Ranjan Kumar Swain, YRC Secretary, Dr. Sandhyarani Patnaik, DPHO,Sri Prabhat Kumar Sethy FSO andSri Harish Rupal,NYKS

The day commenced with a vibrant cycle rally led by enthusiastic students from Govt. Polytechnic College. Carrying banners and placards promoting anti-tobacco messages, the rally aimed to create awareness among the residents of Malkangiri. The participants energetically pedaled through the streets, spreading the message of a tobacco-free lifestyle.

The event commenced with an informative presentation by Dr. Sandhyarani Patnaik, who shed light on the numerous health risks associated with tobacco consumption. She highlighted the detrimental effects on both active and passive smokers, including increased risks of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory ailments, and other serious health complications.

Sri. Trinath Majhi, in his address, underscored the need for collective action in discouraging tobacco use and promoting a healthier society. He praised the efforts of the District Health Organisation and Polytechnic College for organizing such an event and urged the students and faculty members to spread awareness among their peers, families, and communities.

Sri. Sachin Patel, in his speech, commended the collaborative effort and reiterated the importance of youth involvement in anti-tobacco initiatives. He emphasized the role of law enforcement agencies in enforcing regulations pertaining to tobacco control and pledged continued support from the police department.

As the event concluded, Smt.Sharmila Sabar, College Prinicipal , expressed his gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and emphasized the significance of continued efforts in curbing tobacco use.

The World No Tobacco Day observance at Govt. Polytechnic College, Malkangiri, served as a platform to educate the community about the harmful effects of tobacco and motivate individuals to quit or avoid tobacco use. The event also celebrated the achievements of talented students, recognizing their exceptional abilities and inspiring others to pursue excellence.
